Write to Remember

When was the last time you wrote something substantive — a letter, a story, a journal entry, etc. — by hand? Could you ever imagine returning to a pre-keyboard era?

Over the years I have gotten to the point where I don’t write a whole lot by hand anymore.  I have even gotten away from doing my budget by hand and have opted to create an Excel spreadsheet instead, which has made my life so much easier (No more math).  However, writing stuff down is how I remember things, always has been.  So I still have notepads all over the house because scribbling down things I need to remember helps me remember.

I was always an avid note taker while I was in school.  It was how I reinforced the things that my teachers were saying so that I could remember the information later.  However, after I stopped going to campus classes it is also how I remember terminology from week to week.   I have notebooks from every semester, almost all of them are full of notes.  All of the notes, make sense to me and helped me to keep my grades up.

Honestly my textbooks are mostly full of notes too.  I tend to scribble things in the margin.  I’d never be able to resell any of my books lol.

So the last time I wrote something substantive was probably notes for American Literature.  We had a guide we had to follow when we were reading poems and such and I used to write all my answers to the prompts.  Then translate what I had written into essays for class.

Could I imagine returning to a pre-keyboard era?  Probably, I’m a child of the 80’s I’ve lived without a keyboard before, but I wouldn’t want to.

    1. Yeah I wish I could say that works for me but it doesn’t. I can recall me writing the notes I can’t recall my typing the notes into the notebook in my phone. Thanks for stopping by and thanks for the comment!
